"We Are Genesis!"

HISTORY:

Founded in September of 2009 by Chris Magonigal, Aaron Sandoval, Robert Flores and Dillon Ingle, Genesis set out to provide an opportunity for the youth of the RIo Grande Valley to participate on the "next level" of musical competition.  In addition Genesis was formed to help provide an alternative to the ever growing youth violence and sedentary lifestyle in our communities.

After its initial auditions in November of 2009, it was clear that this program would be successful and would draw more interest than just those within it's current community.   Members from all over Texas and as far away as Wisconsin participated in its first season of activity in 2010.  "One Night in The Valley" was a show fit for our inaugural season, with it's latin jazz and latin roots, the show, and underdog new corps, was a crowd pleaser along our Mid West National tour.  The season was not only a huge success off the field, but the corps finished 9th at the DCI Open Class World Championships, a huge milestone for such a young organization.

The 2011 season brought us our first "rebirth"of ideas and "Big Top After Dark" was a show in direct contrast of our 2010 season.  Bringing new genre's of music and visual ideas as well as increasing our level of demand to the student members was our goal in 2011.  A goal that was well received by the members and staff and the result was great success and growth for Genesis.    Finishing 6th at the DCI Open Class World Championships and reaching new levels of expectations for all captions was tremendous recognition of our student members achieving that goal.  In addition, being recognized by their peers, Genesis was voted "Most Improved Drum Corps" for 2011 which was the cap to a fantastic second season.

MISSION:

GENESIS Drum and Bugle Corps is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promote the existence and marketability of drum & bugle corps through social events, music, marching and competitive performances. We are an extra curricular activity, which offers participation to both boys & girls.

Similar to many sports teams, this activity promotes TEAMWORK, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, SPORTSMANSHIP and ENTERTAINMENT,  however it is that entertainment factor that makes this program unique. The corps is dedicated to bringing together individuals with diverse backgrounds and interests with a desire to develop and educate the community in the art of “Field Performance Theatre” through discipline, teamwork and the pursuit of competitive performance excellence.

We wish to provide an opportunity for young musicians in the Rio Grande Valley to explore new musical avenues and expressions.  Our program is built by the Valley and FOR the VALLEY.  We will build our program with the community and it's arts programs in mind.

GOAL:

To give each member the opportunity to come together with not only other highly motivated individuals, but with the whole community and to instill a strong desire to pursue excellence and perform at the peak of their potential.

Membership is a rewarding experience that can benefit each student for years to come and will result in friendships and resources that last a lifetime.
